Services for Seniors AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) Click here to access the American Association of Retired Persons website, which includes information on member benefits and services, advocacy issues, and other topics of interest to older Americans. The Central New York Regional Transportation Authority operates this service for elderly and disabled passengers. EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage) Do you qualify for this New York State-funded drug coverage program? Check out this website for income limitations and coverage guidelines. Fayetteville-Manlius Friends in Service Here (FISH) This valuable service does not currently have a website. Volunteer drivers provide free transportation to doctor's appointments on an availability basis. Limited to seniors in Fayetteville and Manlius; phone 315-637-8158 for information. Fayetteville-Manlius Community Outreach, Inc. (Food Pantry) The F-M Community Outreach offers a Client Choice Food Pantry for residents of the villages of Fayetteville or Manlius. The Pantry is funded by monetary donations and donations of canned and non-perishable food items from the community. Click here for additional information. Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) of New York State HEAP may be able to help heat your home, if you meet specific income or housing guidelines. Click here for an application, more information about the program, and tips on minimizing energy expenses. Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals on weekdays to seniors, as well as people who are chronically ill, disabled, or recovering from illness or surgery. The cost for a hot lunch is $4.50 daily; for a cold supper, there is an additional $2.00 charge. Financial assistance is available for those in need. Try their benefits checkup, a confidential questionnaire that determines eligibility for 1,300 different federal, state, and private benefit programs. This division of the U.S. National Institutes of Health provides extensive information and numerous publications on matters related to senior health. New York State Partnership for Long-Term Care This program combines private long-term care insurance and Medicaid Extended Coverage to help New Yorkers prepare for the financial demands of nursing home care, assisted living services, or in-home care. Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth A wealth of resources is available to seniors residing in Onondaga County through the Department of Aging. PACE, a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly, provides a wide variety of medical and personal services designed to assist seniors who wish to remain in their own homes as long as possible. |
